Parents were concerned when a football pitch and goal posts appeared in the same field next to the new play area. We were also concerned as we had been working to get agreement for keeping that field clear of formal sports pitches so that we had an area that could be developed for community facilities. Local councillor Lynn Senior also became concerned when parents spoke to her about it and the risk to children the pitch created.

Following representations we are delighted to be able to say that the pitch and goal posts have been quickly removed and that Jane Ushwell, Parks Development Manager for all city parks, has agreed the field will be kept free of formal sports provison in the future.

This is really good news. It gives us a space on the park to create more for local people without risk of conflict with sports on the park. It’s just what we wanted, so many thanks to all who helped in getting this agreed.
