The restoration of the park gates is a City Council project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. The Story of Parks is also part of this project.
The park gates at the Peace Walk entrance have been removed, restored, and replaced. The main gates at the London Road entrance have been removed and are currently being restored. They are due to be replaced by the end of 2016.
The restoration of the park gates forms part of the larger centenary walk project which is creating a processional way from the park entrance to the war memorial. This also includes the remodeling and extending of the car parking area, and the renewal of many of the nearby sports facilities.
